Puglia - A Taste of Baroque Italy

Puglia - A Taste of Baroque Italy

16th  – 23th September 2018

If you’re looking for an authentic Italian experience in a relatively unexplored region, Puglia might just be the place for you. Whether you love strolling through labyrinthine streets in historic towns, lazing on soft sandy beaches, feasting on genuine local specialities, or sipping on delicious wines made just round the corner, Puglia has something for you.

Magnificent masserie, tempting trulli and the best palazzi in town...

Our Medical Symposium journey continues to Puglia, also known as Apulia, which is in the south of Italy. The heel and spur of boot-shaped Italy , Puglia’s history is inextricably linked with those of other Mediterranean countries and the invaders who came from afar: the ancient Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Normans, Emperor Fredrick II and the Spanish Bourbons. All left their imprint in some tangible way. It is fast becoming increasingly popular as travellers discover the area's varied charms and beauty: baroque towns, white-washed trullo houses, olive groves and orchards, blue sea and beaches, plenty of sunshine and excellent cuisine.

Day 2 – Tuesday 17 September 2019

Close your eyes... imagine yourself in a vaulted cavern carved out of magnificent limestone rocks, with a view of over the blue-green Adriatic.
Now imagine a superb restaurant for dinner, with the sealaping at the door. Naturally lit by the aqua marine reflection from the waters, the summer cavern has been the scene of many a romantic moment since local nobility held banquets there in the 1700s. Enchanting visitors for centuries, Grotta Palazzese is a stunning restaurant built centuries ago inside a cave on the Italian coast with breathtaking views over the Adriatic. The restaurant is carved from cliff face’s limestone and juts out 74 feet above sea level allowing diners to watch the waves as they indulge in scenery. The only thing missing here are four walls.
